The car was nice but had a paint odor - I mentioned this to the rental return staff but the reply was it's a vehicle with a lot of miles - The odor was strong or I wouldn't have mentioned it. - My previous experience with National has been good - they are usually service oriented.
Being an Emerald Club member with National is SWEET. Place your reservation online or via phone and show up at the National Car Rental. You walk straight to the cars and bypass the counter. No line. Have your licence and credit card out. Real easy. The cars are always crisp. I'm glad I signed up.
My "Go To" rental car company. Love that as an Emerald Club member I can go straight to the pickup center and choose my own car. A quick stop at the exit both and I'm on my way. The cars have always been clean and dependable with low mileage. Return process is quick and easy. Using my free earned rental days is trouble free too.
The two star rating deserves an explanation. When I arrived at the checkout kiosk a warning light had come on for a tire issue. The attendant suggested getting a different car, but there were three cars lined up behind me and no one came to help tell the other cars to back up. It was awkward and moderately difficult with many cars trying to leave. All went well when I returned the car until I received the summary statement from the rental. I was assessed charges for an extra day. The statement said I returned the car on a Monday afternoon, when I actually returned the car on Sunday. The real due date was Monday morning . I was also assessed for excess mileage when I was really 60 miles below the limit allotted. When I called, the lady that took my call was outstanding. She fixed the charges rapidly with no innuendo that I was dishonest or wasting her time. Overall the rental went fine but the errors should never have occurred.
National Car Rental has ALWAYS come through for me in many situations. They have consistently met ANY need or schedule change I've had since I travel nationally about 75% of the time. I've been an Executive member for years now and they make sure you're well taken care of at every location. Louisville, KY needs a look at by Regional or Senior customer service management. The ONLY ONE location I've come across that have no customer service skills and I'm there 20 times per year. I have no doubt that will change for the better. Out of 25 locations I visit, that still gives National a 5 star rating.
I will continue to use National but will do diligence before leaving the lot.
