had a car reserved with Payless, but upon arrival I was told that they are completely out of cars and that was that. I received no prior notification about this and i had checked my reservation and confirmation multiple times earlier. the other rental companies laughed and rolled their eyes when we told them Payless was out of cars. long story short, I'm posting this to warn others- if you really need a reliable ride your best bet is to just rent elsewhere, we found it is worth it for the higher prices.

Worst car rental company. I️ wish I️ read those comments before booking through the 3rd party. Beware, they don’t charge you the rate that the 3rd party have them. They charge you a higher rate when you pick up the vehicle. They don’t show you the total that you signing for. They said initial here.when trying to get a refund for higher amount the. Charged you they said you initialed that you agreed to pay that amount.Customer service representative Melanie is the worst and very unprofessional. She kept going back and forth with me in a nasty way on a ticket thread to resolve the issue.Over all bad experience. Even the people who works at the booth in the parking garage had an attitude.For the amount that they charging and the poor service you might as well go to a well known car rental company and get better service for your money.

I landed in LAX airport at 12:00. Had to wait for 20 minutes for the shuttle. Twenty minute drive to the building. Once there, they only had ONE counter and ONE WORKER! I have been in LA for two hours and still don't have a car. I have never rented from this company before and will NOT rent from them again. Sooooo slow! I wrote this while in line....

Absolutely the worst car rental experience I could ever imagine. I flew into town because my dad was having emergency surgery. I was unable to return the vehicle on time as he declined rapidly and couldn’t leave him. Payless messed up the extension I tried to get and basically told me my dying father didn’t matter. They needed their money. Zero flexibility on when I could return it or where. Talked to everyone I could get to answer the phone. It will be a horrible mistake if you choose to rent from them.

This company does not offer the same service and accountability that you would expect from a more reputable company. They give you the runaround to handle minor requests. They make it the customer's responsibility to do any and everything. Upon receiving the vehicle, it was not full. There is no attendant to verify the fuel level upon pickup. You would think that they would've verified the fuel before releasing the vehicle to a new customer. Upon returning I was asked why I did not let someone know about the fuel level. I took a photo of it 7 minutes after picking up the car. I returned it at 3/4 of a tank and made mention of it. I was asked to return the keys to one counter, then speak to someone at the next counter, all to find out there was no supervisor on duty. I was told to call customer service the next day instead of having someone from their team call me. They take no responsibility for any mistakes on the company's behalf. I was not a customer looking for a discount but a customer looking for them to uphold their end of the bargain. Other staff kept saying was we don't have access to that... We don't have access to that either. Why are you working here then? You're not an agent, your a cred redit card processor and key holder. This rental is due to a last resort situation of there being no other cars with other companies. Please don't rent here; take your business elsewhere. The highpoint of the rental: the very nice agent who rented me the car. He was awesome.

Once we finally got to the counter, they switched workers. The new worker that arrived spent 5 minutes (I timed it) cleaning her area without saying a word to us. She was extremely rude when I asked her if it was possible to clean AFTER we had our car. Her reply, "I will not help you until I have cleaned up this area. Everyone and their mother has been touching things. You can go over to the other counter have someone else help you. I have had a long day too." Really? Customer service skills maybe need to be reviewed! Another 20 minutes later, I went to pick up a car. None of them had cruise control and there were only 5 cars available. There wasn't a worker around as we picked our car. We chose one, had to mark any areas on a slip of paper that was sitting on the seat, only to find the front bumper hanging. We unloaded the car and tried two other cars before we found one. We went and found two workers to ask about a car with cruise and neither one had a clue and couldn't find one. We finally left with a car at 2:45 - without cruise control.
